We often take for granted our Canadian values & institutions, our freedom to participate in cultural & political events, & our right to live under a government of our choice. Young men & women who lost their live in war times believed that those rights & freedoms were being threatened. On Remembrance Day, we acknowledge the courage & sacrifice of those who served their country & acknowledge our responsibility to work for the peace they fought hard to achieve. DEVELOPMENT & PEACE, FALL CAMPAIGN “Working Our Land, Fighting For Our Rights.” This Fall, we are beginning the first of two years on land issues, a natural progression from our two years on mining. We consulted with D & P partners in the Global South & determined that the land issue that most concerns them is food sovereignty, basically the right of people to healthy food & the right to define their own food & agricultural systems. If realized, food sovereignty would provide for genuine food security & equitable trade, with the priority given to local markets, producers & consumers. We’ll show how mining threatens people’s food sovereignty & make mining the focus of our Fall Post Card Campaign. Fall Action: Post Card Signing Nov. 29 & 30.
