EXPLANATION OF THE PARTS OF THE EUCHARISTIC CELEBRATION A weekly continuation for your information LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST Preface: The preface starts out with “The Lord be with you,” the traditional greeting of Christians in the early Church. “Lift up your hearts” are more than words of encouragement. This is both a prayer and a reminder that our lives are a gift from God and we respond by living a life walking in the way of the Lord. “Let us give thanks to the Lord” highlights the fact that prayer is more than intentions. Prayer is more importantly, giving praise and glory to God. After the introduction, the Preface always speaks of how it is only natural to give thanks to God. This is a constant reminder for the faithful to incorporate prayers of thanksgiving into their prayer life. Every Preface concludes with the Holy, Holy, Holy. This prayer recalls the words shouted when Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. It is a great prayer of praise and glory. Yet it is important to remember how those who so boldly sang praise to Jesus also betrayed Him a few days later. The Holy, Holy, Holy is poetic and is a good prayer to meditate on.
